The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) has confirmed that, following the count of ballots from Thursday's general election, the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has won 32 seats and the Peoples National Party the remaining 31.
Returning Officers will submit to the Director of Elections documents which indicate the winner in each constituency and confirm the total number of seats. Following the receipt of the returns, the information will be formally communicated to the Governor-General today.
This will clear the way for the JLP, led by Andrew Holness, to form the new Government of Jamaica.
Magisterial recount
Meanwhile, the EOJ has been summoned to attend the Sutton Street Court on Wednesday for a magisterial recount for the constituency of St Mary South Eastern.
This process is expected to fully determine who is the new Member of Parliament for the constituency.
On the night of the election, the JLP's Dr. Norman Dunn was declared the winner for the seat, but this result was overturned when the recount was done on Saturday, with the seat being awarded to Dr. Winston Green of the People's National Party.
Dr. Dunn then applied for the magisterial recount.
