The country should hear today whether the Jamaica Public Service Company delivered on its commitment to restore electricity to all parishes, except for sections of St. Elizabeth or areas with accessibility issues, by Monday's deadline.
Energy Minister Daryl Vaz has written to the Office of Utilities Regulation requesting a comprehensive report detailing the status of electricity restoration by community and parish across the island following Hurricane Beryl.
In the letter sent Monday to OUR Director General Ansord Hewitt, Mr. Vaz said the information is needed to assist his ministry in evaluating the overall recovery efforts.
Additionally, the ministry has asked the OUR to provide a detailed account of the compassionate measures to be implemented for customers whose electricity service was not restored by the Jamaican Public Service Company within the previously communicated timelines.
He said given that JPS has not met these restoration deadlines, the ministry anticipates an extension of service disconnection or penalties for all affected customers.
The OUR is also requested to ensure JPS immediately publishes updated restoration timelines.
