EOJ criticised for failure to pay trainers of election day workers

The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) is coming under fire for the non-payment of salaries to persons involved in the training of election day workers last year.

Radio Jamaica News understands that at least six trainers, who were engaged as early as February 2025, have not received payment despite completing all assigned duties and the required paperwork.

The trainers, who are from St. Mary, noted in a letter to Radio Jamaica News that payment, initially expected in the same timeline as payments to regular election day workers, have been delayed through Hurricane Melissa and the Christmas period.

The document added, that to date, there has been no resolution.

Workers say the continued delay undermines confidence in the electoral process.

They are urging the Electoral Office of Jamaica to act immediately.

When contacted, Director of Elections Glasspole Brown said the EOJ is in receipt of the documents submitted by the workers and they will be paid no later than Friday.
