The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) is reporting that up to 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, voter turnout for the general election was 30.41 per cent, while the turnout for the local government by-elections was 27.35 per cent.
The EOJ said voting would continue until every person who was in line at 5 p.m. is allowed to cast their ballot.
The EOJ had earlier indicated it was having challenges with its Electronic Voter Identification and Ballot Issuing System (EVIS), which it eventually suspended in some constituencies.
In the 2020 general election, the overall voter turnout was 37 per cent.
The current voters' list, updated May 31, has a total 2,077,799 registered voters.
Voting was conducted at 7,294 polling stations across 2,153 locations islandwide.
The EOJ said a total of 99.5 per cent of polling stations opened on time at 7 a.m. while the others opened before 7:30 a.m.
Some 190 candidates were nominated for Wednesday's polls - 184 for the general parliamentary election and six for the local government by-elections.
