The family of the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) contractor who was injured last month while carrying out duties at the Rockfort Plant in Kingston is appealing for financial assistance from the company.

Odean Wood, 34, suffered third degree burns or injury to 95 per cent of his body after an explosion at the plant on April 14.

Members of his family and other persons staged a protest outside the Rockfort plant Tuesday morning, calling for the management to respond to their pleas for help.

Mr. Wood's mother, Ann-Marie Wood, told RJR News that he has been in the Intensive Care Unit at Kingston Public Hospital. However, the hospital has said he will need further assistance from some other medical centre overseas.

"He is supposed to go overseas... When we go down by (Kingston) Public yesterday, the nurse say to we say him body deteriorating and what are we waiting for," the mother told RJR News

Mrs Wood said she went to the JPS head office last week and was re-directed to the Rockfort plant, but no progress was made.

RJR News tried unsuccessfully to contact Winsome Callum, Director of Corporate Communications at the JPS for comment.
