The fire at a business complex along Young Street in Spanish Town, St. Catherine is under control.
Radio Jamaica News was informed that firefighters, who had been battling the blaze since sometime before 4 p.m. Thursday, were able to contain the fire about 3 a.m. Friday.
It is not clear how the fire started on the three storey commercial building.
Fire units from Kingston, Spanish Town, Portmore and May Pen were at the scene.
Smoke from the building affected the air quality for communities in and around the area.
Acting Assistant Commissioner in charge of the Jamaica Fire Brigade's Area 3, Dennis Lyon says firefighters had difficulty accessing the warehouse of the building which was underground, and the lack of a working fire hydrant in the area further delayed efforts to extinguish the blaze.
