This year's Fireworks Festival to ring in the New Year tonight will be expanded to St. Elizabeth and Westmoreland.
The Urban Development Corporation says this will ensure that more communities, particularly those hardest hit by the hurricane, can share in the experience.
Tyrell Morgan, Communications Manager at the UDC, says the decision to proceed with the festival comes against the backdrop of ongoing national recovery efforts.
"Fireworks 2025 is on and is still called the Fireworks Festival. Life, Love and Recovery, that's our emphasis this year. It is still on. This year, yes, we have expanded to Black River and will be at the Black River courthouse and will also be in Negril at the Long Bay Beach Park. We'll be having three main features this year. We'll be having kiddies village at 12 noon, we'll be having disc jockeys. No live entertainment this year, no live stage show, but disc jockeys will be there from 6 p.m. until about midnight, and maybe a little after party that will be there. And of course, the fireworks at midnight," noted Mr. Morgan, who was speaking Wednesday on the Morning Agenda on Power 106.
The UDC will also host simultaneous Fireworks Festivals in Kingston, Montego Bay, and Ocho Rios.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force has said the public should expect traffic changes and road closures to facilitate the fireworks shows.
