Port Royal has welcomed the first cruise ship to the newly developed pier.
The Marella Discovery II, with more than 2,000 visitors, docked in the seaside town amid overcast skies Monday morning.
Among those who greeted the visitors were Prime Minister Andrew Holness and Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett.
Mr. Bartlett noted that the port is still a work in progress, however, he said the "new concept of creating a walk that enabled the ship to be docked not exactly on port site but to be connected, is an important development and innovation" that he believes "Jamaica is leading the way with."
One tourist told TVJ reporter Kirk Wright it was "a lovely feeling" to be among the first cruise passengers to visit the town and to see the excitement of the locals.
