Five persons killed in Linstead mass shooting

Assistant Commissioner of Police Christopher Phillips

Five persons, including a four-year old child, were killed in a mass shooting in Commodore, Linstead, St Catherine, Sunday night.

Four others were wounded in the gun attack and have been hospitalised.

Two females and three males died in the incident which took place around 8:45.

Assistant Commissioner Christopher Phillips, commanding officer for the Area 5 Police, said the shooting might be linked to a gang conflict.

ACP Phillips told Radio Jamaica News that the shooting was carried out by men posing as police officers, “which is very concerning for us, as investigators…”

He said the men simply entered the target premises and opened fire.

Such behavior “doesn’t represent the kind of operations of the police,” he declared.

Noting that “the community is in shock,” ACP Phillips promised that the police will “provide the kind of leadership and resources that will bring a speedy resolve to this situation.”
