Kayon Wallace, Director of Corporate Communications at FLOW
Telecommunications company FLOW says only a few customers have filed complaints in connection with the telephone scam which emerged in Jamaica on the weekend.
Kayon Wallace, Director of Corporate Communications at FLOW, said the company has already blocked the numbers thought to be involved in the scam.
"We really encourage our customers just to be vigilant. Treat all calls from unfamiliar country codes with some amount of caution. If you accept a call from an unfamiliar area code and you're unsure, just end the call quickly without sharing any personal details or following any instructions that they may give you," Miss Wallace advised.
She encouraged customers who receive any such calls to make a report to the company's contact centre or via their social media platforms so the matter can be investigated.
Miss Wallace was unable to say whether customers who called back the numbers would be compensated.
"We have investigations currently underway, so that will be handled in due course as part of the investigations," she responded.
Meanwhile, in a statement Monday afternoon, the Technology Ministry said persons who suspect they may be a victim of the telephone scam should contact its Cyber Incident Response Team at 247-1112 or 702-5210.
Persons are also urged to contact their telephone service provider or the police.
