The Government has intervened in a bid to prevent the
closure of the Caribbean Christian Centre for the Deaf (CCCD) which is
reportedly facing financial problems.
The school's plight was highlighted in one of the daily newspapers earlier this week.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Social Security Andrew Gallimore who toured the institution Thursday has pledged his Ministry's full support for the institution while appealing to corporate Jamaica to assist.
His visit followed reports that the school may face closure, due to rising operating costs and dwindling support from overseas sponsors who provide the majority of sponsorship.
Mr. Gallimore says he will hold discussions to determine what can be done to assist the school.
The CCCD was established in 1958.
It has campuses in Kingston, Mandeville and Montego Bay and caters to hearing impaired students from pre-school to the high school level.
261 students are currently enrolled at the campuses.
