There is growing uncertainty about the length of time it will take for the global services sector to rebound from disruptions caused by Hurricane Melissa.
Several global services hubs in western Jamaica have been reeling from the effects of Hurricane Melissa's destructive sweep, but the government says work is ongoing to assist the sector.
Delano Seiveright, Minister of State in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, says the global services sector contributes greatly to Jamaica's economy.
He says the ministry has been in dialogue with key players across various sectors since the passage of the hurricane.
"The key is to give support where we can to a lot of players in the micro sector to get them back up and running, and that's happening as we speak. Beyond that, we're keen on ensuring that the major businesses, the hotels, the global digital services sector, big retailers, other major businesses that they get up and running as quickly as possible."
Mr. Seiveright said a critical part of that work is ensuring that there is communication with providers in electricity, telecommunications, water and fuel "to ensure that we can get movement as it relates to activities in the sector and get the economy back on track".
