The decomposing body of eight-year-old Navardo Blackburn, who was reported missing over the weekend, was found Tuesday in his community of Gregory Park in Portmore, St. Catherine.

The body was discovered in an abandoned car along Melvin Avenue in the area.

Navardo, who was autistic, lived on Queens Avenue.

The police had reported that Navardo was last seen at a playfield in his community about 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Member of Parliament for St. Catherine East Central, Alando Terrelonge, expressed sadness at the child's passing. He said support will be provided for Navardo's mother.

"This is the news that no parent wants to hear. And I can tell, I mean, Prudence is completely traumatised by it, devastated. She was really hoping just moments before that her son would have been returned to her so that she could just love him and hug him and kiss him. His grandmother is at home. You know, I mean, her other family members are home consoling the grandmother as well," he bemoaned.

The MP described the development as an "unfortunate circumstance".

"The entire Gregory Park is mourning right now. So we're just hoping that there's no foul play and again, we just await for the autopsy," he said.
