The continued standoff between the Guyana Teachers' Union and the Ministry of Education has resulted in delay in a new wage deal.
Both sides were expected to ink a new deal on Tuesday, however the union pulled the plug on the deal.
In an advisory to its members, the union said there would be no signing and instead the GTU would be engaging with the teachers in their various clusters to chart the way forward.
The Union and the Guyana government have been at odds for several months over a new wage deal, which resulted in classes being suspended for several weeks as teachers opted to stay away from the classrooms.
It is still not clear the direction the union will take, with the reopening of school a matter of weeks away.
