Hope for former employees of Wyndham New Kingston hotel

Things are looking up for former employees of the Wyndham New Kingston who were left jobless, following a fire at the hotel in March.

A meeting was held on Tuesday at the Ministry of Labour to discuss the payment of  outstanding entitlements as well as other benefits to the displaced workers.

Rudolph Thomas, senior negotiating officer at the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU), said proposals were placed on the table to compensate the workers:

“These proposals, however, require further discussion with the membership as well as with the receivers. But what I can say is that it would facilitate an improved offer over the 331/3 per cent of entitlement to which was offered previously,” said Mr. Thomas.

The union represents more than 150 former line staff  at the Wyndham.

The Wyndham Group removed its name from the 303 room hotel in July, having ended its management contract for the property.
