Household damage assessments post hurricane to end shortly

The Ministry of Labour & Social Security says it has completed assessments of more than 89,000 households that sustained damage during the passage of Hurricane Melissa.

Minister of Labour & Social Security Pearnel Charles Jr gave the update during an interview Tuesday on the Morning Agenda, on Power 106.

"I'm seeing 89,308 assessments completed, and that does not include, I think about a hundred assessments we have left in Trelawny to switch over from paper to digital, so basically, you can say we're at 89,500, which means we've basically finished the assessment," he said.

The assessments are being conducted using the Jamaica Household Disaster Impact and Needs Assessment form and will inform the Government's programme to restore households and communities that have been severely affected by the storm.

Meanwhile, Mr. Charles says the assessment is expected to close shortly and is urging anyone who has not yet been assessed to come forward.

"If you did not get assessed, don't quarrel, take action... go onto our website and self-report; to the parish office and self-report; call us and let us know so that you dont get behind."
