Hurricane Franklin has weakened to a Category 3 hurricane and is expected to weaken further to a Category 2 storm when it passes near Bermuda.
The island is expected to face sustained winds of 37 to 56 kilometres per hour with gusts of up to 83 kilometres per hour.
Minister of National Security Michael Weeks urged the public to prepare for the storm.
He said public services are expected to run as normal on Wednesday, but Bermudans are urged to stay tuned for updates.
Hurricane Franklin's closest point of approach to Bermuda is forecast to be 2 p.m. Wednesday, when it will pass about 278 kilometres to the northwest of the island.
In its latest update, the Bermuda Weather Service said the storm was expected to weaken before it makes its closest point of approach.
