Inquest begins concerning elderly Jamaican killed by dogs in the UK

An inquest has begun concerning the death of a Jamaican grandmother who was killed by two dogs in the garden of her home in the West Midlands, England.

Proceedings will continue on June 17 when a pre-inquest hearing will take place.

The body of 85 year old Lucille Downer, a retired cook, was found in her back garden on April 2. A post mortem revealed that she died from a traumatic neck injury caused by a dog bite.

The owner of the two dogs, a 43-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of being the person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control, causing death. He has been released on conditional bail pending further inquiries.

The dogs have been euthanised.
