Investigations continue into murder of young pastor

Investigators are reporting that the licensed firearm of Pastor James Johnson was stolen when he was gunned down on the compound of the Church of God of Prophecy in Spanish Town St. Catherine on Thursday.

A senior detective told RJR News that the the gunman made off with the weapon after shooting the 29 year old Pastor in his office at the Church, located on Old Harbour Road.

In making his escape, the gunman was challenged by a licensed firearm holder and this led to an exchange of gunfire on the compound of the church.

It is not known whether the gunman was shot.

Meanwhile, Head of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), Acting Assistant Commissioner MacArthur Sutherland, says investigators are following several leads, but have not yet established a motive for the killing.

He is urging anyone with information on the murder of Pastor Johnson to contact the CIB, Spanish Town Police or 119.

And National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang says senior investigators in the St Catherine North Police Division and the Major Investigation Division have been urged to find the killer of the Pastor.
