The Jamaica Agricultural Commodity Regulatory Authority (JACRA) and the National Works Agency (NWA) are partnering to rehabilitate roads in the coffee farming areas.

Work is to be undertaken under the government's Coffee Farm Road Rehabilitation Programme.

Close to US$10 million has been earmarked for the programme.

Acting director general of JACRA Wayne Hunter says while the programme will not be able to address all the roads at once, the agency is committed to having all of them reinstated.

"NWA has been actively assessing and reviewing and preparing a bill of quantity so that we can understand the cost to repair the roads. Now let me say this, we will not be able to reach all the roads at once, but one thing for sure, please note that we are resolute in terms of repairing the coffee roads," he pledged.

Mr. Hunter said the rehabilitated roads will deliver far-reaching benefits to the communities.

"This will help our coffee farmers as well as community to get produce in and out. It's good to have these roads rehabilitated as it could speak to tourism in the area, to see some of the natural sites as well as to take the produce, coffee, out of the areas for marketing," he pointed out.
