The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) says Jamaica is among six countries in Latin America and the Caribbean which are falling short of the World Health Organization's target of vaccinating 40 per cent of their citizens against COVID-19 before the end of the year.
PAHO Director Dr. Carissa Etienne says St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Haiti, Guatemala and Nicaragua are yet to vaccinate 20 per cent of their populations.
The PAHO director also highlighted that, while the overall vaccination rate in Latin America and the Caribbean currently stands at 39 per cent, coverage is much lower in far too many places.
She said with more vaccine doses to be allocated to the region, countries must make the necessary preparations so that the doses can be used as quickly as possible.
