Jamaica High Commission to hold special ceremonies for dual citizens

Special ceremonies are being planned by the Jamaican High Commission in London, England, to recognize UK-born persons of Jamaican heritage, who take up Jamaican citizenship.

Aloun N’dombet Assamba, Jamaica's High Commissioner to the UK, said the Mission has been encouraging the second, third and fourth generations of  UK-born Jamaicans to recognize their links to the island.

The ceremonies, she said, will also strengthen bonds with the next generation of UK-born Jamaicans.

Mrs. N’dombet Assamba made the announcement on the weekend at a meeting of UK-based Jamaican community members and business leaders, at the High Commission, where activities for 2013 were outlined.

The High Commission receives up to 15 citizenship applications each week, and Mrs. N’dombet Assamba told the meeting that the proposed ceremonies will be a special recognition for those who go through the process.

The decision has been made to have a recognition ceremony twice a year during which people who become Jamaican citizens will be acknowledged.
