Jamaica to comment on US recognising Jerusalem as Israel's capital

The Jamaican Government is to issue a statement on the US recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
 
The matter was raised during Friday morning's sitting of the Senate by Opposition member K.D Knight.
 
Information Minister Senator Ruel Reid said Foreign Affairs Minister Senator Kamina Johnson Smith will make a statement on the matter at next week's sitting of the Upper House.
 
US President Donald Trump announced earier this week the decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital. 
 
Israel has welcomed the change but Palestinian and Arab leaders have warned the move will jeopardise any Middle East peace process.
 
In the meantime, the United Nations Security Council is holding an emergency meeting on the tension in Jerusalem.
 
Violence continues between Israeli forces and Palestinians protesting the move.
 
Clashes erupted in the occupied West Bank and over the Israeli-Gaza border, where one Palestinian was killed.
 
Palestinian medical sources said more than 200 persons have been injured.
