UK detectives are investigating a London-based organised crime group following this week's seizure of cocaine worth 40 million pounds sterling on a vessel near Martinique and the detention of a suspect in Jamaica. The cocaine was bound for London.
Police say authorities in Jamaica, Venezuela, the eastern Caribbean and the US were involved in tracking the ship and alleged gang members.
A major anti-narcotics operation on Monday involving detectives from Jamaica's Major Organized Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) and their UK counterparts resulted in the drug seizure. A suspect was also held in Jamaica. Two British nationals, who were on the vessel, will be interrogated.
It's reported that customs personnel intercepted the vessel off the coast of Martinique and found 250 kilograms of cocaine on board.
Based on a request, MOCA conducted a search and seizure operation at premises in St. Catherine where the suspect was found.
