Jamaican man arrested in Florida for sex crimes against teen

By Kimone Witter

A Jamaican man living illegally in the United States was last week arrested in the Florida panhandle for sex crimes involving a teenager.

According to Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford, 44-year-old Damian Gulgar is charged with unlawful sexual activity with a minor and engaging in sexual intercourse without disclosing a positive HIV diagnosis.

Mr. Gulgar, who was arrested on January 29, allegedly admitted to being HIV positive and being sexually involved with a teenager during an interview with law enforcement.

Sheriff Ford said his office became aware of the crime when it received a report surrounding the sexual abuse of a child last month.

The teenage victim was then interviewed during which she disclosed the encounter with Gulgar, whom she met on social media.

He was in the country illegally after overstaying on an expired visa.
