Jamaican woman shot dead at birthday party in New York

New York police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 26-year-old Jamaican woman early Sunday morning in Queens.

She has been identified as Avalisa Morris.

It is reported that she was throwing a surprise birthday party for her best friend when police say two men began arguing.

Witnesses say Morris told the men to take their disagreement outside, the men left the home but one of them allegedly shot Morris through the door.

She was hit in the head and pronounced dead on the scene.

Relatives say Morris, who worked at a bank, was generous and always a peacemaker,

"She's always smiling, always smiling. And you know, nobody expected
anything like this was supposed to happen because who ever was invited was
supposed to be friends," said the victim's uncle, Spencer Grant.

"She would do anything for anyone. She doesn't say no, you ask her for
anything and she can do it. Her last dollar, you have it is you need it,"
said the victim's cousin, Lennox Grant.

No arrests have been made.

Family members say Morris’ body will more than likely be returned to Jamaica for burial.
