Jamaica's unemployment rate fell to record low in April

There has been a near two per cent dip in the rate of unemployment as at April, bringing the figure to 4.5 per cent.
 
According to STATIN, this is the lowest in the country's history.
 
Director General of STATIN, Carol Coy, says there was and uptick in the number of people employed in April when compared with the corresponding period last year. 
 
"The unemployment rate in April 2023 was 4.5 per cent and this was 1.5 percentage points lower than the same quarter in 2022. The unemployment rate moved down for both males and females. The male unemployment rate was 3.4 per cent while the unemployment rate for females was 5.7 per cent," she disclosed.  
 
The STATIN head said the largest increase in employment was in the industry group 'Real Estate and Other Business Services'.
 
The occupation group with the highest increase in employment was 'Service Workers and Shop and Market Sales Workers'.
