Jamaica's winter tourist season off to strong start

The Jamaica's tourism product is showing strong signs of recovery, earning US$331.2 million since the passage of Hurricane Melissa.

In total, Jamaica welcomed 370,000 visitors.

The Ministry of Tourism says the winter tourist arrival season has opened on a strong note, with over 70,000 visitor arrivals recorded within the first seven days.

The ministry says this signal has continued confidence in the destination and a steady recovery of the tourism sector.

Of the total arrivals, approximately 46,000 or stopover visits, while 30,000 arrived by cruise ships, which the ministry says reflects robust demand across airlift and cruise segments.

Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett says the arrival numbers are encouraging, adding that the country's tourism recovery strategy extends beyond statistics.

Minister Bartlett says the ministry continues to have dialogue with stakeholders to strengthen labour market arrangements within the sector, securing the tenure and support of workers as the recovery progresses.
