The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has confirmed that it has procured one thousand body-worn cameras.
In September last year, the Commissioner of Police revealed, during an interview, that the Force was then in the final stages of this landmark acquisition.
The JCF says, despite significant disruptions caused by the devastation of Hurricane Melissa, the procurement process was successfully completed.
It says the process of deploying Axon Body Camera III devices is underway, with particular focus on formations of the JCF that experience high levels of citizen engagement, and that this is being guided by operational need, training readiness, and established governance protocols.
Another thousand body-worn cameras will be secured and deployed during the next financial year, the JCF added.
