The locla Human rights lobby group, Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) has charged Youth Minister, Lisa Hanna, and National Security Minister, Peter Bunting, as being responsible for the death of Vanessa Wint, 16.
In a blistering statement released on Thursday, JFJ said Miss Hanna has failed to ensure that the agencies in the Youth Ministry areproviding vulnerable children with the help and support they deserve.
The statement adds that the Youth Minister is making plans to further institutionalise the practise of housing juveniles with adult female convicts, by transferring the women and girls now housed at Fort Augusta to the South Camp Road facility.
JFJ also laid the responsibility of the teens death at the feet of National Security Minister, Peter Bunting, adding that he is directly accountable for the care of children in lockups and correctional facilities.
The human rights group also pointed to the Child Development Agency , saying the agency turns a blind eye to the abuse of children .
The release added that judges who order that children be placed in adult correctional facilities, are also responsible for them.
In the statement, JFJ demanded that all children should be removed from police lockups and adult correctional facilities, and children in state care and in correctional facilities be provided with routine psychiatric care.
