JLP Leader and Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness
Jamaica Labour Party leader and Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has said the next JLP administration will issue 25,000 land titles per year to formalise land ownership and give families lasting security of tenure.
He said his party will also introduce a special programme to ensure more churches have land security.
"In the next administration, we will do 25,000 titles per year under this new law that we created, so that every Jamaican can get a title, a diagram, a surveyed area of the land that they own. And [Robert] Montague remind me that there are many churches all over Jamaica - you know they say Jamaica has probably the most churches per square mile - many of them don't have their titles. We're going to create a special window for the churches to come and sort out their title," he announced.
Dr. Holness was speaking at a JLP meeting in St. James on Sunday.
The Prime Minister said the government issued over 12,600 titles under the Systematic Land Registration Programme.
