JLP's Robert Chin scoffs at challenge by Bunting in South Manchester

Robert Chin, Member of Parliament for Manchester Southern

Member of Parliament for Manchester Southern Robert Chin has scoffed at Senator Peter Bunting's announcement that he will be challenging him for the seat in the next general election.

In an interview with Radio Jamaica News, Mr. Chin said Mr. Bunting does not stand a chance of overthrowing him, given his track record of performance in the constituency.

"I am excited that he is coming to South Manchester. People know him and what he has to offer and that will work against him. My performance after three years in office speaks for itself. On roads, I've spent more money on roads in the last three years than certainly in the last three terms of any PNP government," he asserted.

Mr. Bunting lost his Manchester Central seat to the Jamaica Labour Party's Rhoda Moy Crawford in the 2020 general election.

In 2023, Mr. Bunting repeatedly declared he was walking away from representational politics. But on Sunday January 21, he announced to PNP supports in Porus, Manchester, that after being persuaded by the party, he has agreed to contest the Manchester Southern seat.

The next general election is constitutionally due in 2025.
