The alleged leader of the Jones Town based Joe Benbow criminal gang Joseph "Benbow" Barrett and three others, who are accused of importing a shipment of guns and ammunition into the island, were remanded Tuesday when they appeared in court.

The guns and ammo were concealed in a DVD player.

The Johnsons and Warren were nabbed in a sting operation when they went to collect the package at the airport, while Mr. Barrett was charged when he surrendered to the police.

All four have been charged with conspiracy to deceive customs, importation of firearms, conspiracy to import prohibited goods, conspiracy to import firearms and ammunition and conspiracy to import restricted goods.

The police seized one Glock 40 pistol, one nine millimetre Browning pistol, one Springfield nine-millimetre pistol and one .45 Ruger pistol as well as ten .45 rounds and 16-nine millimetre rounds.

The four were remanded until November 21.
