John’s Hall main road on the brink of collapse

The troublesome John's Hall main road in St. James which connects several rural communities including Maroon Town to Montego Bay continues to erode.

The major thoroughfare is traversed by scores of vehicles including heavy duty units on a daily basis.

However, motorists believe that it is only a matter of time before the entire hillside on which the road is now perched, collapses.

It has long been reported that water heads run beneath the roadway, and a mini stream indicates that it could be true.

The area where the road is now located is on the Quarry land, which due to erosion had to be relocated twice.

Operators of the Quarry have reportedly been putting in place temporary measures to allow the residents a smoother passage.

Motorists are threatening to take action again noting that they have been waiting far too long for the problem to be addressed.

Last May, residents blocked the roads for miles leaving scores of commuters stranded and shortly after the National Works Agency (NWA) along with former Junior Minister Richard Azan toured the area.

At the time, NWA communications and Customer service Manager, Stephen Shaw, said the problem was being addressed but was hampered by inclement weather conditions.

He added that the area required proper research and design for a long term measure to be put in place.

The residents believe that it is taking far too long.
