Winsome Callum, Director of Corporate Communications at the JPS
The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) says it is now in the process of restoring electricity service to thousands of its customers who lost power on Monday.
Jamaica Public Service's Corporate Communications Director Winsome Callum told Radio Jamaica News that the company as well as its independent power producers have been able to restore some of the units on the grid.
She said the company is also in the process of repairing damage to its transmission and distribution lines.
"We have been able to restore power to most of our customers. We had over 100,000 customers affected. We now have only about 20,000 customers who are still without power. We expect that within the next two hours or so, we will be able to restore electricity to these customers," she advised.
JPS said it will take two more days to complete assessment of its entire transmission and distribution lines infrastructure.
However, Miss Callum said there should be no long term impact on customers' power supply.
