NWA Communication Manager Stephen Shaw

The Junction main road in St. Mary is impassable due to landslides following heavy rainfall in the area.

The National Works Agency says a team has been dispatched to the area in a bid to have it reopened.

NWA Communication Manager Stephen Shaw told Radio Jamaica News that two landslides occurred in the Broadgate area.

"We have been in touch with a heavy equipment operator in the space and we are moving to have the corridor reopened sometime this evening. So we're advising persons to exercise extreme caution in this space. The information is that it is raining heavily in that section of the country, and so we know there's always the likelihood of landslides and boulders falling onto the road."

He urged travellers to exercise extreme caution while traversing the area.
