The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) said an additional fleet of buses will be engaged to provide greater ease of access to transportation for underserved hill routes.

Managing Director Paul Abrahams said the bus company will be partnering with the Transport Authority to better serve commuters in isolated areas, such as Border, Golden Spring and Gordon Town in St. Andrew.

"The terrain for those areas are very difficult on our buses. However, we are now in the process of putting together a rehabilitation programme and we restructured 12 buses specifically to those routes. We are now realising that a lot of persons are traversing from those hill locations into the Kingston area," he noted.

"We are in discussions with the Transport Authority...to come to some understanding where we may be able to franchise some of the underserviced routes alongside JUTC's operation."
