Quick action on the part of a Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) driver on Wednesday evening averted what sources say could have been a potentially explosive situation.
About six in the evening persons reportedly gained access to a No 32 unit which plies the downtown Kingston to Duhaney Park route. The driver, later boarded the bus and noticed smoke.
It's understood that he managed to extinguished the fire. A fire unit was summoned and checks were made following which clearance was given for the bus to operate.
It was later discovered that newspaper soaked in what appeared to be fuel had been placed in the bus.
Investigators are trying to determine whether the incident is linked to a demonstration yesterday outside the JUTC's Corporate office in Spanish Town.
