Kartel trial: Witness denies concocting text messages

An expert witness in the Vybz Kartel murder trial on Friday dismissed suggestions that he had concocted text messages, which are among several key pieces of evidence in the court case.

The witness, Corporal Sean Brown, of  the Organised Crime Investigation Division, was in his fourth day on the stand. He had analyzed text messages and call records supplied by Digicel

Attorney Pierre Rogers, who is representing accused Kahira Jones, claimed Corporal Brown had failed to conduct a detailed analysis of  the data and other records provided by telecommunications firm Digicel, which could have assisted in the men's defence.

Mr. Rogers argued that the text messages contained crucial conversations which had more than one of  the accused expressing their non-participation in the events which led to the August 2011 disappearance of Clive "Lizard" Williams.

On more than once occasion, Mr. Rogers suggested that Corporal Brown had concocted the messages.

However the policeman insisted this had not been the case.

In a series of queries, Corporal Brown frustrated Mr. Rogers as well as defence attorney Michael Lorne by refusing to answer questions, claiming privilege under the Interception of  Communication Act

The trial continues on Monday.
