Fire destroyed a Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and an abandoned house on Queen Street in Montego Bay, St. James this morning.
The fire department says preliminary investigations revealed that the fire may have started in the abandoned house and then spread to the Kingdom Hall.
Both building were extensively damaged.
An alleged eye witness says he saw when the fire started and he along with neighbours tried to fight the blaze.
He says the fire department arrived long after they were called and the firemen were not prepared.
Head of the St. James Fire Department Dolfin Doman says the fire department received the call at four forty four and it took fire personnel ten minutes to get to the location.
The estimated cost of the damage is set at 15 million dollars.
The Kingdom Hall was insured.
