KSAC intervenes in row between residents and American school

The Kingston & St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC) has intervened in a long running dispute between residents of College Green in Hope Pastures, St. Andrew and the developers of the American International School of Kingston (AISK).

In a letter over the signature of Town Clerk, Errol Greene, the KSAC has ordered the College Green Citizens Association to remove a padlock from one of the community's gates.

In his letter, the Town Clerk accused the Association of blocking access along College Green Avenue.

He has instructed that the gate be opened failing which he will take action to achieve this goal.

College Green residents recently locked one of two gates leading in and out of Cowper Avenue, following months of dialogue with the AISK.

They say College Green Avenue, which runs outside of the gated section of the community, has not been affected by their action.

The residents claim that they took this measure as a last resort because the developers of the exclusive private school consistently failed to honour their commitment to a series of provisions set out by the KSAC to govern the construction phase.

Among other things, they have accused the developers of traversing the community with heavy delivery trucks outside of the hours agreed in collaboration with the KSAC; including on Sundays; ignoring the comfort and concerns of homeowners and their children.

The residents claim that, as a last resort, they eventually ended the developers' access to College Green.

In the meantime, the developers of the school are now using a road that they constructed between College Green and Jamaica College.

The College Green residents contend that with that road at an advanced stage of  development there is no longer a compelling need for continuous access through their community.
