After a near 15-year battle, the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC) has finally begun the demolition work on the controversial Auburn Court building, South Avenue in Kingston.
Mayor of Kingston, Desmond McKenzie says preliminary demolition work started on Thursday, June 16, ahead of the June 19, major demolition works.
The KSAC served notice that South Avenue between Constant Spring Road and Waterloo Road will be closed for at least 14 hours to accommodate the demolition works.
Mayor McKenzie said the demolition of the illegal structure is expected to bring closure to the longstanding legal battle which racked up more than $5 million in court costs.
The Supreme Court had granted an order giving the KSAC the go ahead to demolish the building, which includes a bowling alley constructed without authorization.
