The Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC) has met with the police to roll out a more targeted and sustained programme to tackle illegal vending, and restore order to the streets of the Corporate Area.
Mayor of Kingston, Angela Brown Burke, says the problem appears to have worsened in recent weeks. There are also reports of pedestrians and motorists being intimidated by vendors whose goods block access to roads and pathways.
The Mayor warned that the Council will be taking a zero tolerance approach to illegal vending.
Meanwhile, the KSAC demolished sixteen illegal wooden and concrete structures which were being used for commercial and residential purposes in several communities. The operations were carried out over several weekends in Maverly, Duhaney Park and Washington Boulevard. Additionally, notices were served on illegal garages, and derelict vehicles removed from sidewalks.
