Labour Ministry ensuring safety of Jamaican hotel workers threatened by storm in US

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security says preparations have been completed for the safety of Jamaican hotel workers in Florida, as well as North and South Carolina.

The workers, who are employed to various hotels and resorts in South Carolina and Florida, were transported to shelters on Wednesday and Thursday.

This is in keeping with states of emergency declared by the governors of South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida and Georgia.

The ministry says some workers opted to stay at their apartments or with family and friends.

The Jamaica Central Labour Organisation in the United States will continue to monitor the safety and welfare of all workers in the programme during and after the storm.

It will provide regular updates to the ministry.
