Opposition Senator Lambert Brown has withdrawn the statement he made in the Upper House last week that jungle justice may have a role to play in Jamaican society to deal with certain categories of crimes.

At the start of Friday's sitting of the Senate, Senator Brown issued a statement noting that his comments last week were his personal views.

"Last Friday, during the debate on a motion for adjournment, I expressed my personal view in relation to anyone violating any female member of my family. Those are my personal views," he insisted.

"I urge no one else to act on those views, neither do I urge such personal views as public policy.... However, on reflection, I accept that the Senate was not the place to expound such a view. My comment was made in the wrong forum. I therefore withdraw it from this forum," he declared.

During a heated debate in the Senate last Friday over the George Wright assault matter, Senator Brown indicated that anyone who violated his daughter or any other female member of his family would have to face the consequences that would flow from him in the absence of the rule of law.
