Attorney and founder of human rights group Freedom Imaginaries, Malene Alleyne, says the lobby group will not sit idly and allow any form of mistreatment of the 35 Haitians who arrived in Jamaica by boat on Sunday.

It's reported that the Haitian nationals, comprising of 29 males, five females and a child, came ashore at a beach in Kensington, near Manchioneal in East Portland.

Ms. Alleyne said Freedom Imaginaries will be acting in the best interest of the CARICOM nationals.

"We will be taking some action. I don't want to say what that action is just yet, but we will be taking very serious action to ensure that they are not treated how previous groups have been treated," she pledged.

The Haitians were picked up by the Portland Police sometime after 5 a.m. Sunday.

They were transferred to a nearby health facility in Port Antonio, where they were screened and medically examined.

The police confirmed that this is the fourth group of Haitians on record to enter Jamaica by boat since the start of the year.

Since that time, the majority have had their application for asylum rejected by the government and have been repatriated.
