Local cable television operators will be meeting soon to discuss their next move following Tuesday's announcement that telecommunications company Flow has been granted an islandwide license to provide cable service.
Following the last Cabinet meeting before the August 27 general election, Information Minister Donald Buchanan disclosed that the government had acquiesced to Flow's application.
But the Jamaica Association of Community Cable Operators has blasted the government claiming the deal with Flow lacks transparency.
Additionally they claim it will lead to unfair competition in the industry since Flow has the capacity to become a dominant player.
Chairman of the Association, Colin Innis is asserting that small players are slowly being squeezed out of the industry.
Flow entered the Jamaica market in April of last year and immediately announced that it had applied for a national license from the government.
