Man charged with murder of Barbara Gayle remanded until July 21

 
Travis Ellis, the man charged with the brutal murder of retired journalist Barbara Gayle, was further remanded until July 21 for case management hearing.
 
Mr. Ellis is represented by Donahue Martin and Tom Tavares-Finson.
 
When the matter was called up Monday, the Home Circuit Court was told that Mr. Ellis has seen a psychiatrist and a psychiatric report is to be submitted.
 
The court was told that the prosecution is in receipt of forensic biology certification and forensic DNA, and is to disclose to the defence attorney electronically. Disclosure is to be made on or before June 13.
 
Mr. Ellis was charged in December with murder and robbery with aggravation following an investigation into the death of the veteran journalist.
 
The 77-year-old retired Gleaner journalist was killed at her home in the gated community of Caymanas Estate in Greater Portmore, St. Catherine on December 17, 2024.
 
Her body had stab wounds.
 
Ms. Gayle's Mercedes-Benz motor car, which was missing from her home, was found on December 18 near Dyke Road in Gregory Park, Portmore.
 
Mr. Ellis was arrested hours later in the Grange Lane community. The accused, who hails from Gulf in Gregory Park, reportedly gave the police a caution statement about his alleged role in the incident.
