Man opens fire inside Hunts Bay police station, killed by the police

Superintendent Arthur Brown

In a bizarre incident on Wednesday afternoon, a gunman walked into the Hunts Bay police station in St. Andrew and opened fire, resulting in the injury of two persons.

He in turn was shot dead by the police.

It's understood that about 12:45 p.m., the shooter went in pursuit of a man who had gone to the police station to report on condition of bail for a crime. The aggressor reportedly opened fire at his prey.

Superintendent Arthur Brown, Commander of the Hunts Police Station, told RJR News that the police returned fire and a shootout ensued. The lone gunman was shot, after which he was taken to Kingston Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

One Glock pistol and three magazines, containing approximately 23 rounds, were taken from the man.

Superintendent Brown said the gunman also wore a bullet-proof vest, from which two extended magazines were taken at the hospital.

The incident forced pedestrians at a nearby bus stop to run for cover, while there was confusion among motorists along Marcus Garvey Drive, who tried to avoid gunfire.

A female motorist sustained a bullet wound.

Several vehicles parked near the station were also damaged by bullets.

The Police High Command has launched an investigation into the incident.
