The Police High Command says a manhunt has been launched for eight detainees who escaped from the Constant Spring Police lock-up in St. Andrew on Tuesday morning.
Nine men escaped custody, but one has been recaptured. He is a 45-year-old David Rhoden of Malvern Avenue in Kingston.
The detainees reportedly escaped by cutting their way through a grille and a door made of metal.
The police say immediate measures have been put in place to recapture the remaining escapees with resources deployed island-wide to support the effort.
Those on the run are: 19-year-old Alonzo Espute of Cassava Piece in Kingston 8, who was charged with murder' 27-year-old Brandon Ennis of Belvedere in Red Hills, who was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon; 23-year old Talik Chambers of Burlington Avenue in Kingston, 10, who was charged with identity theft; and a 25-year-old Donque Douglas of Upper Oxford Street in Kingston. He was charged with wounding with intent, shooting with intent and malicious destruction of property.
The other escapees are: 18-year-old Fray Mesias of Pinto in Stony Hills, St. Andrew, who was charged with rape; 19-year-old Richard Bishop of Olympic Way in Kingston, who was charged with burglary and larceny; 31-year-old Junior Anthony Barnes of Iron River in Golden Spring, charged with possession of prohibited weapon and unauthorised ammunition; and 25-year-old Kamal Kelly of Mannings Hill district in Stony Hills, St. Andrew, who was charged with shooting with intent.
Members of the public who may have information on the whereabouts of these escapees are being asked to contact the Constant Spring Police at 876-924-1421, the 119 emergency number, Crime Stop at 311 or the nearest police station.
Persons are also reminded that it is an offence to harbour criminals.
